About Head Knot

Asking for help can be tough, and getting the right support can feel even harder. That’s why Head Knot was created - to make it easier for young men to access mental health support. Speaking with a counsellor who specialises in working with men aged 19–40, can feel more comfortable reaching out. Being met with empathy and understanding in a judgment-free space, we ensure you will get the support you need to navigate some of life’s challenges you may be facing.

Head Knot also makes counselling more accessible with online appointments available after-hours, to anyone in Australia.

Head Knot is especially passionate about supporting young men, as suicide remains the leading cause of death for young Australians, with men being most at risk. Research also shows that men aged 55–59 have the highest suicide rate. Head Knot exists to help young men access support earlier in life, reducing the risk of crisis later on.

If you book a counselling appointment with Head Knot, you’ll be working with Lisa. With extensive experience at Lifeline and GambleAware, two organisations that address two major issues affecting men - suicide and gambling harm, Lisa knows the importance of early intervention. She has dedicated her professional development to men’s mental health, ensuring she provides the best possible support for those who need it.

PACFA certified practising counsellor Lisa Tu - Head Knot Online Counselling

I started Head Knot to make it easier for young men to get support for their mental health. It’s not always easy to realise when you’re not feeling right, so I came up with the idea of calling mental and emotional challenges “head knots.”

We all know what it’s like to feel tight or sore when our body has knots, maybe from stress, bad posture, or pushing ourselves too hard. But our minds can get knots too, and they can cause real pain - mentally, emotionally, and even physically.

As an integrative counsellor I incorporate a range of counselling and psychological approaches alongside person-centred therapy. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them find the best way forward.

The modalities I use include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

I don’t believe there’s a single ‘right’ way to support people. Everyone is different, so I adapt my approach to suit each individual. By drawing on a combination of the above modalities, I create a personalised therapeutic experience tailored to what works best for my clients.

My ultimate goal is to equip my clients with the ability to understand and untangle their Head Knots to create lasting change and build a more fulfilling life.
